New post for advocate

Prominent Limpopo human rights lawyer and activist Advocate Seth Nthai, pictured, has been appointed a senior counsel.

President Thabo Mbeki announced on Tuesday that Nthai, 47, would assume his responsibilities with immediate effect.

Nthai is the former MEC for safety and security in Limpopo.

He left active politics in 1999 after serving five years as MEC.

Nthai rose to prominence when he was involved in student politics at the then University of the North, where he obtained his law degree. He read for his Masters degree in 1987 in Washington and also obtained his diploma in trial advocacy.

Nthai has also been appointed as legal advisor to the Nhlapo Commission, which is probing traditional leadership claims and disputes. - Selby Makgotho
