The Pieter Toerien Theatre in Montecasino in Fourways presents The Unexpected Guest, which starts on January 28 and runs until February 25.
This challenging murder mystery features some of South Africa's best-loved television stars. including Tessa Jubber, James Alexander, Jan Ellis, Dean Roberts of the drama series Scandal and Paddy Canavanof the Madam & Eve sitcom fame.
The play is directed by Malcolm Terry, who directed the successful productions Joburg Follies, Phantom of the Opera and We Will Rock You.
The scary story starts just before midnight on a deserted, foggy stretch of a country road. Michael Starkwedder runs his car into a ditch and is forced to abandon it.
Fortunately, a nearby manor house offers the prospect of help, and he makes his way to the French doors of a ground-floor study.
After his knocking fails to rouse a response from within, Starkwedder tries the doors.
Finding them unlocked, he cautiously lets himself in and comes face-to-face with an attractive young woman standing over a man's body.
The unexpected guest finds himself drawn into a murder mystery in which everyone has a motive and no one is who they appear to be.
The twists and turns should keep you guessing until the end of the play.
