From assault charges to the counselling couch.

That's where shamed "people's poet" Mzwakhe Mbuli, right, finds himself.

But he says he's happy the common assault charges against him were withdrawn yesterday in the Johannesburg magistrates' court.

"Any domestic dispute needs counselling," Mbuli, a convicted armed robber, said outside the court.

Prosecutor Dally Mashaba submitted a letter to the court confirming that the Mbulis are attending counselling sessions.

And Mashaba confirmed that the state was withdrawing all the charges against Mbuli.

Mbuli said he was happy the charges were withdrawn, but when he was questioned about counselling, he refused to elaborate.

Mbuli was arrested last month after his wife Doris laid assault charges against him.

Now the couple are attending marriage counselling, together.

Mbuli first appeared in court last month.
