Development for select few

I need to voice my concern with regard to how clubs are going about the development of football talent in this country.

I need to voice my concern with regard to how clubs are going about the development of football talent in this country.

It is a sad case for children who live outside Joburg (Gauteng) or any province that lacks Premier Soccer League teams.

A recent example is of two boys from Upington and Bloemfontein who passed trials at two respected teams in the PSL.

I got the shock of my life when I followed up on when they should report to the respective academies, and was told that there was no accommodation for the boys.

One team wanted me to pay for the kids' schooling. I had already given them (the teams) future stars, next thing I must fork out money.

It is clear that for kids outside Gauteng there are no opportunities in terms of development.

That is why I will miss a guy like Zola Dunywa, who really made an effort to take development to the furthest end of our country.

All I can say is: it's official that boys from other parts of the country won't get a chance to be developed - a sad thing indeed.
