There is something fascinating about dance, one of the most striking forms of expression of human emotion and the nature of the human condition.
The popular dance festival, the FNB Dance Umbrella, is marking its 19th anniversary next month and features an exciting programme of works:
l The German-Kenyan collaboration CounterCircles, at the Wits Theatre Downstairs, February 26 and 27 at 8.15pm.
l Emballe-moi from Switzerland at the Wits Theatre, February 28 and March 1 at 7pm.
l Impro-Vise 2 choreographed by Andreya Ouamba from Senegal at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) Arts Centre, March 3 and 4 at 8pm.
l Pascal Montrouge's Os at the Wits Theatre, March 5 and 6 at 7pm.
l The South African-French collaboration Wola-Baba at the UJ Theatre, March 9 and 10 at 7pm.
l Inside of Me Another Island from Mozambique at the UJ Arts Centre, March 12 and 13 at 8pm.
l Cleaning, a South African-Zimbabwean collaboration, at the UJ Arts Centre, March 9 and 10 at 8.30pm.
A highlight of this year's FNB Dance Umbrella will be the Gauteng MEC Awards for Contemporary Choreography and Dance 2006 on March 17.
The festival includes a young choreographers' residency workshops from February 27 to March11.
Tickets for the FNB Dance Umbrella are available at the door or can be booked at Computicket. Prices range from R20 to R80.
