Four armed robbers pounced on the Department of Education offices in Vereeniging and got away with computers.

The robbers allegedly tied up two security guards before ransacking the building.

Vaal Rand police spokesman Captain Veli Mcera said the four men allegedly gained entry into the department's building through the emergency exit doors.

Mcera said: "The robbers tied up the two security guards with their shoe laces and forced them to lie on the floor."

He said the armed robbers forced the guards to call their radio control offices to inform them that everything was fine.

The robbers fled the scene with two computers, 39 central processing units and a microwave. They escaped in a white Uno and a Corolla.

Sakiena Beg, acting director at the Sedibeng east district offices, said though the robbery would negatively affect their work, it was not going to affect the district's schools.

"It will affect workers at the department's building."

No arrests have been made.
