Decision to close Klerksdorp VUT campus rushed

I find no logic behind the decision to close the Klerksdorp satellite campus of the Vaal University of Technology (VUT).

I find no logic behind the decision to close the Klerksdorp satellite campus of the Vaal University of Technology (VUT).

As a graduate, employee and member of the public who has benefited from the existence of this campus, it is not right to phase out the campus without consulting all the stakeholders.

The management of the campus failed to inform the public on the considerations and reasons leading to the decision to close it.

Before they decided on the closure of the campus, they should have answered these questions:

l Why is the Klerksdorp campus targeted?

l What has the management of the institution done towards the development of satellite campuses over the years?

l What happened to the plans to reposition the Klerksdorp campus before next year?

l Is the main campus channeling sufficient resources towards the realisation of that goal?

I think the management of the VUT is closing the campus because it is afraid that its handling of the satellite campuses, especially the Klerksdorp one, will come under scrutiny.

The new rector should investigate the viability of this campus before its closure.

A study must be carried out to determine the relevance and need to have a campus in Klerksdorp.
