The preferred bidder for constructing a 68 000-seater multi-purpose stadium in Green Point in Cape Town for the 2010 Soccer World Cup was announced yesterday.

The City of Cape Town named the joint venture of Murray & Roberts and WBHO as the preferred bidder.

"The city will now enter into negotiations with the preferred bidder to actively interrogate their tendered price, their rates and qualifications to achieve a reduced total overall cost," the city said yesterday.

The two companies' tender price is projected at R2,7 billion, the city said. - Sapa
