A couple suspected of having helped two treason- accused Boeremag members who are on the run appeared before a magistrate in the Limpopo town of Modimolle yesterday.

National police spokeswoman director Sally de Beer said there were indications that Jacobus Bogaards, 47, and Elizabeth Bogaards, 49, had helped Herman van Rooyen and Rudi Gouws.

The two men escaped from custody on May 3 last year while on trial in the Pretoria High Court. They were also facing charges of sabotage and treason.

The Bogaards are scheduled to apply for bail when they appear in Modimolle next Monday.

They will remain in custody until then.

They face charges relating to the Protection of Democracy Against Terrorism and Related Activities Act. - Sapa
