Poet, soldier of liberation

Leon Mzwandile "Spinks" Ndaba left the country in 1977 at the age of 17 to join the liberation movement.

He was born in Alexandra on August 7 1959 and died on Tuesday.

He was trained in the Soviet Union as an MK cadre and in specialised intelligence. He operated in Mozambique, Angola and Zambia, where he was based in Lusaka. He played a major role in the ANC's counter intelligence unit.

He was also a poet.

At the time of his death he held a senior position in the National Intelligence Agency.

He is survived by his mother, brothers, sisters and five children.

The funeral service will be on Sunday at his home at 8am, He will be buried at West Park Cemetery.
