KZN teachers test for HIV

Teachers at Newcastle in KwaZulu-Natal yesterday voluntarily tested for HIV to motivate and show support for their infected colleagues.

More than 75 teachers took the test, also in memory of colleagues who have died from the virus.

Thabisile Zulu, the Life Skills, HIV-Aids programme coordinator, encouraged teachers to know their status.

"HIV-Aids has crippled our economy and we need to deal with it now," he said.

Zulu said after the voluntary testing by teachers, it will be their choice to reveal their status. - Mhlaba Memela
