An Mpumalanga clinic will be closed until next month because its only nurse is on leave.

The Glory Hill Clinic in Graskop closed last month and will reopen on February 2.

Residents who are sick have to travel to Sabie or Bushbuckridge, about 100km away, for medical treatment.

Health spokesman Mpho Gabashane said the clinic is run by the Thaba Chweu municipality and a process is under way to have it administered by the Health Department.

"It is a municipal clinic. We will ask Sabie Hospital to second staff to the clinic."

Gabashane said the department was not aware that the clinic had a staff shortage.

"If we were notified that there was a staff shortage, arrangements would have been made to keep the clinic open," Gabashane said.
