The mother of Sello Chokoe, the boy brutally murdered in the mountains near Polokwane more than two years ago, said watching other children going to school without Sello in sight was unbearable.
Salome Chokoe was speaking on the first day of the school year yesterday.
She had taken Sello's elder brother, Tshepiso, to register for grade 8 classes at Seshego High School, in Moletjie, Limpopo.
Chokoe, 40, of GaKomape village, north west of Polokwane, lost her 10-year-old son after he was attacked by brutal murderers on July 31 2004.
The attackers cut off Sello's right hand, ear and genitals, and removed slivers of his brain.
Sello died 10 days later at Polokwane Hospital.
"The sight of school children in their uniforms brings memories of my departed son, whom I loved so dearly," Chokoe said.
Chokoe said it pained her that the police had not been able to locate her son's body parts or catch his attackers.
In December the police told her that they were still investigating the murder.
"I have not lost hope that they will make a breakthrough and arrest the perpetrators."
The murder and dismemberment of Sello made headlines around the world.
Gospel singer Solly Moholo recorded a song about the killing.
Senior Superintendent Motlafela Mojapelo said yesterday that the police had appointed a special team to investigate the murder.
