Education gurus have failed our children totally

It is embarrassing to listen to the so-called leaders in education such as Angie Motshekga, talking nonsense on national TV. They must acknowledge that they have failed the children of this country.

I listened with disgust that schools that did not perform will be closed. Before any school is closed, the government must answer these questions:

l What are the causes of the under-performance?

l What action the government took after the investigation?

l What was the response to the action?

l Does the government know that closing schools will deprive black children attending schools near their homes?

l Did the department consider the cost implication of closing schools?

l What is the government's role in ensuring that those schools perform and that black children get a better education?

l Why does the department not accelerate the process towards better education?

l Is the department aware that closing schools will create more problems because most kids won't have taxi fare to go to another school?

These are the issues that the ANCYL and the YCL should be dealing with instead of fighting about who should be the next president of South Africa. This country will go nowhere as long as Fikile Mbalula heads the youth league.
