Teachers and pupils at two Limpopo schools will be smiling from ear to ear today on learning that they are about to drive onto the information superhighway.

Makgoka Secondary School and Tshebela High School, in the Capricorn district, will each receive 20 computers from the deputy minister of education, Enver Surty, as part of the province's efforts to increase the number of pupils studying mathematics and science.

Makgoka will also receive a set of library books and Tshebela a set of science kits.

This is part of the Dinaledi programme, established to support previously disadvantaged schools.

Surty promised to donate the equipment during his first visit to the two schools in August.

A spokesman for the Limpopo education department, Ndo Mangala, said he hoped the move would help motivate pupils in other schools to work even harder to ensure that they passed their examinations at the end of the year.

Mangala said during his visit to the two schools today that Surty will be accompanied by Premier Sello Moloto and provincial education MEC Aaron Motsoaledi when he visits Capricorn.

Mangala said Limpopo schools were ready to begin the first day of schooling. He said stationery had been delivered to all the province's schools before they closed for the festive seasons.

"We are determined to make sure that the education of our children becomes a priority," said Mangala.
