The hunt for a 32-year-old Mpumalanga security guard and his niece in connection with the brutal murder of the guard's son at Weltevrede ended this week when the two handed themselves over to the police.

Charles Busani Mahlangu and Meisie Mahlangu, 24, of Mgababa and Mabhadu sections, in Weltevrede near Siyabuswa, reported to the Siyabuswa police on Monday.

They were sought in connection with the gruesome death of 10-year-old Nkosinathi John Mahlangu on December21.

They appeared before magistrate Nellie Mahlangu in Mdutjana yesterday on a charge of murder.

They were remanded in custody and their trial was postponed to January 19 for further investigation and bail applications.

Mahlangu and his niece reportedly accused Nkosinathi of having stolen R100 from Meisie.

They tortured him with pliers and whipped him with wire until he confessed to a crime he did not commit, said his family.
