Old friends to gather to remember veteran journalist

Media personalities, friends and relatives of veteran journalist "Doc" Bikitsha will gather in Rosebank, Johannesburg, on Thursday to remember the print-media legend.

Media personalities, friends and relatives of veteran journalist "Doc" Bikitsha will gather in Rosebank, Johannesburg, on Thursday to remember the print-media legend.

Bikitsha, 77, died at Tshepo Themba Clinic, Dobsonville, on Saturday. He had diabetes.

His memorial service will be held in the auditorium of Johncom House, 4 Bierman Avenue, at 1pm.

The newspapers for which Bikitsha worked included Golden City Post, Bantu World, The Rand Daily Mail and the Sunday Times. He started his career at Drum magazine.

Though he trained as a teacher, Bikitsha never taught. He earned his name as a creative writer.

He will be buried on Saturday. - Vusi Ndlovu
