Top soccer administrator Afzal Khan has pledged to turn Mamelodi Sundowns' administration around in their quest to become a leading global brand.

Khan officially started his new job as general manager of The Brazilians yesterday, a position previously held by former Downs' captain Walter Kutumela.

Khan's appointment came despite repeated denials in December by Sundowns' chief operations officer Thele Moema, coach Gordon Igesund and marketing director Alex Shakoane.

"It is true that I have joined Sundowns in the capacity of a general manager, I officially started with the job today (yesterday)," said Khan yesterday.

"I would like to thank the club's president Patrice Motsepe for the confidence he has shown in my leadership qualities.

"As part of my duties, I will also be in charge of marketing, branding and overlook plans to make our development programme second to none."

Khan's move to Sundowns has reunited him with Gordon Igesund.

Khan worked as Igesund's manager when they were still at Manning Rangers and Santos.

Motsepe, who is reported to be restructuring the administration personnel of Sundowns, could not be reached for comment.
