Banyana Banyana's two victories at the fifth African Women's Championships in Nigeria in November did not have a major effect on the world rankings.

The South African women's national soccer side are now ranked 71st by the world governing soccer body. It is only one positional improvement (72). Banyana Banyana won their opening two matches at the tournament in Nigeria, beating Equatorial Guinea and Algeria.

Banyana Banyana went on to lose their third game against eventual champions and hosts Nigeria. In their semifinal match, Ghana beat South Africa to end their hopes of reaching their first ever Fifa Women's World Cup.

Banyana Banyana are expected back in action next month for the opening All Africa Games qualifier against Mozambique. Nigeria are Africa's top ranked country, lying 24th. They are followed by Ghana (49th), Morocco (59th).

Ivory Coast lie 72nd, Algeria (75), Mali (76), Egypt (80), Tunisia (86), Equatorial Guinea (91), Angola, Zimbabwe (sharing position 98), Namibia (118), Malawi (119), Lesotho (121), Zambia (121) and Swaziland (134).

Germany are still topping the rankings, with the United States of America second, followed by Norway and Brazil.
