The police plea to mothers not to trust men with their daughters in Sowetan on December 15 is an insult to all loving South African fathers.

The police plea to mothers not to trust men with their daughters in Sowetan on December 15 is an insult to all loving South African fathers.

The statement is highly immoral and not only discriminatory against men, but also undermines the values of the family.

The aim should be to protect our children against abuse and not to send the incorrect massage that every stepfather, uncle or brother is a potential rapist who is waiting for the opportune moment to strike.

My heart goes out to the tireless efforts of all those fathers and stepfathers who continue to be pillars of strength to their families and who are upright citizens.

Let us encourage the reporting of all abuse, rather than create divisions and insecurities among families by labelling men as threats to their children.
