An unidentified East London taxi driver, furious with his lover, gunned her down at a garage forecourt before turning the gun on himself.
Police are still trying to identify the man who shot petrol attendant Vuyiswa Dan in the head after she decided to break up with him.
Superintendent Mtati Tana said the man went to a service station in Greenfield where the woman was working and shot her in cold blood as she was serving petrol to a customer.
The taxi driver then shot himself in the temple.
"The two were lovers and apparently were on the verge of breaking up," Tana said.
He said the police hoped that relatives of the taxi driver would come forward to identify him.
