People of Mafikeng should demand better services

I have been in Mafikeng for a little over a month, but have already experienced electricity outages every week.

I have been in Mafikeng for a little over a month, but have already experienced electricity outages every week.

These affect everything, from businesses to the legislature and are random. I could not even watch the derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates early last month.

What is shocking is how people here suffer as a result. Unlike in Cape Town, there are no media reports on these blackouts.

The Mafikeng municipal service delivery is generally poor.

In unit 9, where I live, there are no rubbish bins except for big metal bins placed in open spaces far away from the houses, which might mean there are no refuse collections.

The condition of the roads is appalling. Water supply is also cut without warning.

The people of Mafikeng deserve better. I think it is time they asserted themselves.
