Sowetan's Polokwane offices' phone lines were jammed yesterday when readers called to complain that the paper was being sold at R10 a copy, instead of the correct price of R2,50.
Pat Mabunda, in Marble Hall, called to complain that he could not afford to get the paper at the price of R10.
Mabunda said when he queried the price, the shopkeeper said he wanted to make a big profit from the paper because it was matric results' day.
Nyaku Phala, of Diphagane village in Sekhukhune, also complained that he had to buy the paper at a higher price than usual because it was matric day.
In Polokwane, pupils, school principals and parents, all struggled to get the newspaper because of selfish individuals buying out all the papers and then selling them at much higher prices. Some parents who had queued since 5am only got the paper at 9am.
