A woman, 24, is being questioned by police after the discovery of the body of an infant found inside a school bag yesterday.
Sergeant Richard Munyai said that detectives were called to a house in Chiawelo, Soweto, and "when we got to the house we found a stillborn stashed inside a school bag" .
Munyai said a charge of concealment of birth was being investigated. The woman, a single mother of three, had not yet been arrested, Munyai said.
The woman's uncle said his niece was taken to hospital yesterday morning after she was found in a pool of blood.
He said his girlfriend told him doctors did not find the baby inside his niece and told them to look in her room.
"I picked up a heavy bag. I became numb with shock. I could not believe what I saw."
