Celtic lose their No 1 fan

Michael Tlhakudi

Bloemfontein Celtic management and fans are mourning the untimely death of their number one supporter, Manny "Bishop" Motsielo, of Silver City in Bloemfontein.

Bishop, as he was fondly known by fellow fans and players, passed away after a short illness last Wednesday.

The 37-year-old Motsielo, pictured above, was a pillar of strength for Masokolara from the days when Celtic were campaigning in the first division, now called the Mvela League. He was very vocal and he organised transport for fans to all matches away from Bloemfontein.

He recently accepted a recognition award when Celtic won the best supporters' club title in the Premier League last season.

Sello Nduna, public relations officer of Celtic, said Bishop's death was a huge loss to the Celtic family.

"He was instrumental in shaping and organising club activities. He was also vocal on many issues that eventually shaped the team to where it is today," said Nduna.

At the time of his death, Motsielo was promoting an album that was recently released. The album was dedicated to the multitudes of Siwelele fans and was already a hit.

Tlhathogo Seate, a Celtic fan, said: "We will miss his leadership and dedication. He inspired many fans to join the team."

Motsielo's funeral will be held at Paradise Hall on Sunday.

"This will be the biggest funeral Bloemfontein has ever seen," said Seate.
