Heist gangs outpoint cops

It seems that not a day passes without robbers targeting a cash-in-transit vehicle in some corner of the country.

It seems that not a day passes without robbers targeting a cash-in-transit vehicle in some corner of the country.

And the successes of the police in tracking down heist gangs do not appear to deter others from their nefarious activities.

With a heist occurring almost every day, the public is jarred by both the frequency of the attacks and the impunity the gangs seem to enjoy.

Assurances that the public should not despair because the police are winning the war against crime are not reassuring while the crooks seem to be winning the propaganda war.

Underscoring the gangs' bravado, and their cavalier attitude towards law and order, is the fact that most heists are committed in full view of the public.

So daring have these robbers become that they often think nothing of brazenly pulling off their jobs on national highways with guns blazing, causing traffic mayhem before nonchalantly leaving the crime scene.

It's the stuff of movies - except that the bullets are real and the bandits brook no public heroics.

For how long will this brazen public plundering be allowed by the authorities to go on?
