Swimming South Africa president Jace Naidoo believes his team has got what it takes to grab more than five medals at the 12th Fina World Championships scheduled for Melbourne in March next year.

In the same world championships last year, the South Africans brought five medals home from Montreal in Canada.

"This time around we are ready to win at least seven because we have assembled a solid and balanced squad,'' said Naidoo.

He was speaking yesterday during the announcement of the 14-member squad in Johannesburg.

"We have kept most of the experienced swimmers who participated in Canada two years ago with the addition of some youngsters from our junior elite team.

"In the women's relay we have selected a team that we believe has the potential to do well in [the Olympics in] Beijing in 2008," said Naidoo.

The SA team will compete in the men's 4x100 freestyle, 4x100 medley relay and women's 4x100 medley.

The squad: Roland Schoeman, Ryk Neethling, Suzaan van Biljon, Lyndon Ferns, Wendy Trott, George du Rand, Geerhard Zandberg, Jean Basson, Thabang Moeketsane, Garth Tune, Cameron van der Burg, Karain Prinsloo, Keri Shaw and Chanelle van Wyk.
