Free State Stars beat a stubborn Pretoria University side 1-0 in one of the Absa Cup preliminary round matches for Mvela Golden League clubs that were played yesterday.

The solitary goal of the match that was played at LC de Villiers Stadium in Tshwane was scored by Duncan "King" Lechesa, the Stars' skipper, in the middle of the first half.

FC AK fell by the wayside in front of their supporters in Eldorado Park when they were beaten 3-2 by Fidentia Rangers in extra time.

The two teams went into extra time after they were tied at 2-all in regulation time.

PJ Stars beat OR Tambo District Cosmos 3-2 on penalties in Meadowlands after their match ended in a 1-1 stalemate after extra time.

Other results yesterday:

Dynamos 2, Vasco da Gama 1; GaRankuwa United 2, Nathi Lions 0; Bay United 1, Witbank Spurs 0; City Pillars 4, Western Province 1.

Winnerspark beat Durban Stars 4-3 on penalties at Chatsworth Stadium on Tuesday night.
