Thabazimbi Golf Club will stage the Christmas Open in Thabazimbi, Limpopo, on December 27.

The event, the first of its kind to be staged at this venue, aims to raise funds for Primary schools in the area.

Event organiser Tshuma Mamuno said they have identified a number of children who have shown interest in golf and they intend o start a golf development project at local schools.

"We hope to raise a substantial amount to enable us to purchase golf equipment such as golf balls, golf sticks, bags and a number of things pertaining to the sport.

"We will continue to identify children who are keen on the game when the schools reopen next year," he said.

Mamuno said they will be conducting courses and clinics at schools on Tuesdays and Thursdays. He said a similar programme has been running in Free State for 10 years and world-acclaimed golfer Trevor Immelman is a product of that programme.

Mamuno said they will teach children between eight and 12 years the basics of the game.

He expects more golfers on the day. He said he had invited golfers from Mafikeng, Pretoria, Johannesburg and Nylstroom. The entry fee is R120 and tee-off time is 10am.
