A constitutional expert says it is difficult to predict the outcome of Schabir Shaik's constitutional court appeal.
Professor Robin Palmer of the University of KwaZulu- Natal told Sowetan yesterday that the constitutional court judges had a number of options.
"It is very difficult to say at this stage. You cannot speculate because the judges could do a number of things which include setting aside all the convictions or sending it for retrial," Palmer said.
He said he had not read the "voluminous" 3000-page appeal lodged with the court.
But Palmer and Professor Pierre de Vos, from the University of the Western Cape, had said earlier this year that Shaik had little chance of successfully appealing his 15- year jail sentence.
They had commented after the furore over the judges having used the phrase "generally corrupt" to describe the relationship between Shaik and former deputy president Jacob Zuma.
