KUWAIT CITY - Parliament yesterday overwhelmingly rejected draft legislation calling on the state to write off billions of dollars in personal loans of Kuwaiti nationals.

Thirty-nine members of parliament, including 15 cabinet ministers, voted against the bill, 20 voted in favour and four abstained.

The government estimated the bill would have cost R189billion, while supporters of the move, for consumer loans alone, said it would have cost R28billion. - Sapa
