Cycling South Africa will stage its yearly Liberty Life Ride for Sight race at Boksburg in Ekurhuleni on February 18.

Race organiser Claudette Medefinet said the main objective of the event is to encourage cyclists to become more active in the sport.

Participants can either take part in the 56km or 116km challenges and there will be lots of cash prizes for the winners.

All proceeds from the race will be used to fund Retina South Africa's research into a cure for blindness caused by retinal degeneration.

Next year's race will be used as a seeding event for the Cape Argus Pick 'n Pay Cycle Tour in 2008. The closing date for pre-entries is January 30.
