There is hope for those matriculants who cannot afford to pay for their tertiary education

The Community and Individual Development Association city campus (Cida) is giving R15 million worth of tuition scholarships for Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) study to 300 financially disadvantaged post-matriculants from anywhere in South Africa.

Each student admitted will receive a R50,000 bursary to study at Cida for four years.

All applicants must have achieved 950 points or more in their matric year.

Applicants should also pass with at least an E symbol in mathematics and a pass in higher grade English, or a C in mathematics and a pass in standard grade English.

Michelle Blumenau, of Cida, said: "Our students are selected on the basis of academic excellence and leadership ability."

Cida Campus specialises in IT studies, finance, marketing, investment, entrepreneurship and construction, among other courses.

The scholarship will cover all tuition and text books, excluding the R350 registration fee asked of first-year students.

Students are also required to stay in Cida's campus residences at R490 a month, which includes all meals, for the first year.

For the remaining three years of study, each student will pay fees of R150 a month.

It is during this time that students may select their specialised courses.

Students will then also be responsible for finding their own accommodation and catering for their own meals.
