Gold medallist Natalie du Toit will conduct swimming clinics at Sun City in North West today and tomorrow.

She will join other Swimming South Africa (SSA)-accredited instructors to teach children the basics of swimming.

This was confirmed yesterday by Easlyn Young, SSA programme manager, who said they have invited the well-respected du Toit to impart her skills to children.

"I hope her presence will definitely encourage more children in Sun City and surrounding areas to take the sport seriously," said Young.

The event is part of a series of clinics that will take place throughout the country as part of SSA's "Learn to Swim" programmes .

The clinic will be the final one in North West. Others were held at Jouberton, Ikageng, Klersksdorp and Rustenburg last week.

The Learn to Swim programme teaches children about water safety, water orientation and basic swimming strokes.

"It also plays an important role in teaching children survival skills in the event of difficulties.

"Drowning still counts for the second-highest cause of accidental deaths among children,'' said Young.
