Coaches to hold talks with Safa
Four coaching instructors who attended a Fifa Futuro Level Three Course in Maputo last week intend meeting Safa to discuss their role in the education section.
They are Augusto Palacios, August Makalakalane, Urban de Dock and Edward Ramashala.
The week-long intensive course, which was a follow- up to one held in Lesotho two years ago, covered a variety of aspects relating to the game.
They included development, style of play, the physical aspect, how to plan for a training session, assessment of players and training of the trainers.
Renowned German instructor Horst Kriete, a former Safa director of coaching, was one of the conductors of the week-long intensive course.
"Fifa made it clear to us that they will be assessing us on a regular basis," said Palacios, who also attended the first course in Vanderbijlpark four years ago.
"Our mandate is that we need to conduct a series of coaching courses in our respective countries in line with what we learnt in Mozambique.
"That is why we have decided to organise a meeting with Conti Kubheka [head of Safa coaching education department].
"We would like to discuss how we can be of assistance to Safa who organise a series of introductory, level one and two courses throughout the country. In Mozambique, Fifa asked all the participants to identify potential women coaches and encourage them to attend courses.
"There is a dire need for women instructors because of the fact that women's soccer is growing in leaps and bounds on the continent."
South African Fran Hilton-Smith is a Fifa instructor who is also a member of the technical committee for it's women's competitions.
Former Banyana Banyana players Anna Monate, Cherryl Botes and Free Stater Mirriam Tshabalala are among the local women soccer coaches.
