Your chance to brighten festive season for children

The Johannesburg Child Welfare Society is one of the country's biggest non-governmental organisations that help vulnerable children.

The Johannesburg Child Welfare Society is one of the country's biggest non-governmental organisations that help vulnerable children.

Founded in 1909, the society has been at the forefront of providing direct services to children and families in distress for nearly 100 years.

Last year almost 14000 underprivileged children and families received care and support from the society.

The organisation relies on the support of sponsors and the community to continue its vital work in previously disadvantaged communities. The welfare society is asking readers to help brighten the festive period for its young residents.

Soccer balls are reportedly in great demand, as are cricket sets, toiletries, stationery and schoolbags. The children's homes belonging to the society are always in need of clothes, furniture, toys and other household goods.

What readers had given and could not be used is passed on to the society's hospice and it sells the goods at their shops. The profits are pooled back into the society's coffers to help the children.

l If you can help in any way, phone the society on 011-298-8567.
