Young provincial rivals face off at cricket week

Stellenbosch will be a hive of activity when 16 provincial teams take part in the Coca-Cola Khaya Majola under-19 cricket week from from tomorrow until Wednesday.

The teams are from South Western Districts, Boland, Border, Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng, Griqualand West, Kei Cricket Board, KwaZulu-Natal, KZN Inland, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Northerns, North West, Western Province and Eastern Province.

The competition will be divided into the platinum and gold groups.

A 14-member national squad that will feature in international tournaments next year will be announced at the end of the competition.

Two friendlies between a select South African Schools XI and Boland XI, and the SA Colts and a Boland Invitational XI have been lined up before the finals.

Reigning champions Western Province should brace themselves for a great challenge from teams from KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, North West and Mpumalanga.

Coordinator Niels Momberg said the objective of the tournament is to give youngsters the opportunity to develop and ultimately be incorporated into top structures
