MILAN - Inter Milan are looking to boost their comfortable lead in the Serie A while setting their best-ever winning run on Sunday when they take on underdogs Messina at a presumably brimming Giuseppe Meazza stadium.

A win over the struggling Sicily side would improve the title holders' previous record of eight straight wins set in the 1940, 1965 and 1989 seasons, all of which saw the blue-blacks clinch the title.

Striker Hernan Crespo, Inter's best scorer and third in the league with seven goals, told La Gazzetta dello Sport that "right now, everything is going perfectly. We are very happy about this last part of 2006 and we want to close the year with a vengeance.

"Personally, I had great satisfaction, leaving London [English champions Chelsea] as a winner and jumping with great enthusiasm into this new Milanese adventure."

Unbeaten and with 39 points from 15 games, Inter last weekend spurted seven points ahead of Roma, who set an all-time record run of 11 wins last February.

Last weekend, a 3-0 beating by cross-town Lazio ended a six-win streak for Roma, who face another tough hurdle late on Sunday against third-placed guests Palermo. - Sapa-DPA
