Legacy of dedicated and lengthy service to pupils and pensioners

Teachers, pupils, pensioners and the community have lost one of the best, well-known and dedicated teachers.

Teachers, pupils, pensioners and the community have lost one of the best, well-known and dedicated teachers.

Abisia Kgomotso Maboa died after a short illness this week.

Maboa, who was born in Lady Selbourne 68 years ago, started teaching at Pedi School, now known as Tsela Tsweu, after completing his teaching diploma at Botshabelo Teachers College in 1963.

Maboa then taught at GaRankuwa High School, which was then popularly known as Top High School.

He was promoted to deputy principal at another popular school, Modiri High, which was known for producing the best football players in the area.

The generally loved teacher was later transferred to Rantailane High School.

This made him one of the few teachers who taught at all the high schools in GaRankuwa.

The Education Department, influenced by his hard work and educational qualifications, decided to promote him to head Kgaugelo Middle School, a position he held until his retirement in 1993 because of ill health.

During his time at home Maboa became chairman of the popular GaRankuwa Pensioner's Club, an organisation he helped to travel throughout the continent.

He was also an official of the GaRankuwa Football Club.

Maboa, who was buried yesterday, is survived by his wife Grace, four children and five grandchildren.
