A King William's Town, Eastern Cape, policewoman shot her 11-year-old daughter dead and then turned the gun on herself.

Constable Nomsa Moshani, who was stationed at Stutterheim police station, and her daughter died instantly on Tuesday.

Captain Thozama Solani said yesterday that the tragedy occurred after Moshani's former boyfriend, who is the girl's father, had failed to appear at the maintenance court in Zwelitsha on Tuesday because he was preparing to get married.

This had angered Moshani, who went to Quzini location where the girl's father lives. An argument started.

Moshani drew her service revolver and shot at the former boyfriend. She missed and the man ran away. Moshani then turned the gun on herself after shooting her daughter dead.
