Role models should inspire our youth

I wonder if people think of the implications their behaviour might have on the communities they serve.

I am referring to Thuso Motaung and his wife, Mmamontha.

The two are highly respected, but have been disgraced by allegations of their criminal activities.

We must not undermine the affect their behaviour will have on the communities that looked upon them.

Remember how these celebrities used to complain about the "kwaito generation" that is hopeless and lacks direction?

How in hell are you going to have an motivated youth when those who are supposed to inspire them are criminals?

Motaung, as a public figure, should have known better. White-collar crime demoralises communities, especially if it is committed by those who are seen as role models.

If you look throughout Africa, we have multitudes of hopeless people who go hungry every day, because someone in the public office spends their money.

To the Motaungs I say, if these allegations are true, you have shamed the people who stood by you and supported your careers.
