Four South Africans have been abducted in Iraq, the department of foreign affairs said yesterday.

Spokesman Ronnie Mamoepa said the four were abducted in what was believed to have been a bogus roadblock near Baghdad on Sunday.

"The four were part of a convoy of four vehicles which included Iraqis. Five Iraqis were also abducted."

The four are employees of Safe Net security service, a sub-contractor for the US department of defence, Mamoepa said. - Sapa
