A policeman was shot and killed while parked outside Pick 'n Pay's parking area in Lambton, Germiston, at the weekend.
Inspector Magopa Rammalo, 39, from Johannesburg Central police station was off-duty and seated in his car when he was attacked by an unknown gunman.
His wife Emily, 37, said her husband left home at about 9pm on Friday to pick up people from a restaurant in Germiston.
Emily said her husband was fetching the people because his friend asked him to pick them up for him.
"He was a good man who was not drinking and smoking. He only had one friend. I do not know why would anyone want to kill him," said Emily.
Police spokesman Superintendent Andy Pieke said they suspect that the motive for the murder was robbery.
"The gunman shot him in the chest. Threw him out of the car and drove off in his car. Nobody has been arrested yet. We are still investigating," said Pieke.
Pieke said they were still looking for Rammalo's car, which is a blue Toyota Corolla with registration number MRG 570 GP.
