Youthful Lamontville Golden Arrows shocked Jomo Cosmos with a narrow 2-1 victory in a Castle Premiership game at Katlehong Stadium yesterday.

The hosts were in full control of the first half as they literally camped in their opponents' danger area but the finishing was a let-down.

Arrows shot ahead in the 25th minute when Vusimuzi Vilakazi drove home Philani Shange's free kick from close range with the Cosmos defence ball watching.

Vilakazi, who frequently troubled Cosmos' shaky defence of Thapelo Tshilo and company, completed his brace in the 32nd minute after connecting with a low shot from Norman Smith on the left flank (2-0).

Minutes before the break Cosmos midfielder Sam Magalefa set up Chris Katongo with a well-calculated pass but the latter shot off the mark with Arrows' goalkeeper Nkosana out of sight.

Both teams threatened in the second half but failed to make use of their chances.

Cosmos reduced the deficit to 2-1 in the 85th minute through Katongo from the penalty spot.

l In Thohoyandou, Black Leopards fluffed numerous scoring opportunities and had to settle for a 1-0win over SuperSport United in their match yesterday, reports Mcelwa Nchabeleng.

After many missed chances Leopards' efforts were rewarded when substitute Costa Khaiseb scored in the 82nd minute to give Leopards their second consecutive win over United.

The win came less than a month after Leopards had beaten United 2-1 in the first round of the Telkom Knockout Cup at the same venue.

There was drama after the match when United coach Pitso Mosimane and some of his players approached referee Lesley Jiyane to question some of his decisions.

l Coach Owen da Gama was an angry man, complaining that his Silver Stars gave a poor dress rehearsal for the Telkom Knockout final when they drew 0-0 with Bloemfontein Celtic in a league game at Phokeng yesterday, Lerumo Tautona reports.

Stars are due to face Ajax Cape Town in the final that is billed for Atteridgeville on Saturday.
