Kgothatso Montjane confirmed her superiority in wheelchair tennis by claiming the women's singles title at the Acsa South African Open at the University of Pretoria tennis courts on Wednesday.
The top-seeded lass from Limpopo overcame another Limpopo player Nancy Moremi 6 - 2, 6 -1 to wheel away with the $7 500 (about R52 700) prize money.
With both finalists coming from Limpopo and the majority of players also from there, the province is emerging as a powerhouse in the sport.
"Most of their players are doing amazingly well. Even in the quadriplegic session, we had Steven Kekane, also from Limpopo, in the final.
"Our goal at the moment is to be able to send both men and women's teams to the Wor'd Team Cup, a feat we haven't managed before. I am excited that we are on track to do that," said Holger Losch, Director of Wheelchair SA.
The five-day tournament attracted participants from Nigeria and France, with the Zimbabwean team cancelling at the last minute after encountering problems securing transport. Results
