Electricity supplier Eskom has set aside R26billion to build the Matimba B Power station in Limpopo's Lephalale Municipality, a move which will boost the local economy.

Eskom spokesman Fani Zulu said the power station would be the largest project the company had taken on in recent years.

"The construction of the station will require people with technical skills to ensure that they do proper work. Unskilled local people will also get an opportunity to acquire skills," said Zulu.

"The project will create permanent and temporary jobs for unemployed people in the province," Zulu said of the project, which is set to create 120000 jobs in an area with an unemployment rate of 40 percent.

Zulu said this was one of many projects Eskom has planned to improve power supply. -BuaNews
