The Springboks have thrown their weight fully behind the campaign for 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children.
It takes place yearly from November 26 to December 10. The white ribbon, symbolising the campaign, was presented to the Springbok team last Thursday by Gert Oosthuizen, the deputy minister of sport and recreation.
Players and management wore the ribbons on their blazers on Saturday.
"The core message that we aim to convey during this year's campaign is: Do not look away, act against abuse," said Oosthuizen.
Springbok captain John Smit, speaking on behalf of the players, said they fully endorsed the campaign.
"We wish to call upon all South Africans to do everything they can to prevent and condemn abuse of women and children every day, everywhere," he said. "This campaign of 16 days only highlights the crisis that vulnerable members of our society face every day."
The call was initiated by the United Nations, to fight violence against women across the globe. In 1999 the South African Government adopted this campaign, adding children to the cause. - Sapa
