Popular musician Umanji, pictured, who was critically ill for a while, is back on his feet and raring to kick butt at a festival.

After months out of the limelight because of TB and hospitalisation, the unique former policeman-turned-singer says he is ready for action.

Umanji, whose real name is Johannes Nkuna will perform for the first time in months at the Magatle showgrounds outside Polokwane on Saturday.

He will perform alongside jazz maestro Selaelo Selota, Thabiso Mokone and Thabzito during the outside broadcast of the Polokwane-based Thobela FM.

The singer was recently rumoured to be broke and depending on his mother's monthly pension grant. During the sickness he lost his long-time sweetheart and his recording company dumped him.

"I am happy that I have been given the opportunity to perform again. I have fully recovered from TB because I was scared that my voice would be affected. I thank God and my family for being with me during the trying times.

"I am ready to entertain my fans. They should expect a rejuvenated Umanji.

"I hope I am not going to let them down. TB sufferers should know it is curable and all they should do is go for treatment."
