The KwaMashu African Film Festival begins on Friday and runs until December 17.

In its third year, it will focus on African films but also includes local and international documentaries.

The festival, held near Durban, will also present workshops conducted by local filmmakers that include Daniel Derckssen, Cliff Bestall, Madoda Ncayiyana, Omelga Mthiyane and Nilesh Singh.

The workshops are designed to meet the needs of aspiring filmmakers.

The comedy Bunny Chow will open the KwaZulu-Natal event. A locally produced film, it also opened the Sithengi Film Festival held in Cape Town earlier this year.

A film to look out for is Strangers, featuring young actors from KwaMashu.

lScreening times for all films will be at 2pm and 6pm.
