James Bongani Kamte is set to win the lucrative Alfred Dunhill Championship at the Leopard Creek Country Club in Mpumalanga from today to Sunday.

The 24-year-old golfer, who has been on top of his game this season, stands a good chance of snatching the R1, 4 million first prize.

Although he has not won any major tournament in the Sunshine Tour, he has improved tremendously and is ready to upset the applecart in this championship.

"I'm much better than last year, and not as dead as I was then. I've been working hard on my game and I'm relaxed," said Kamte.

He added that he struggled with his game a bit, but he managed to go forward with his struggle. Sunshine Tour media manager, Lali Stander said Kamte has all the tools to win it.

Others are Lindani Ndwandwe, John Bele, Omar Sandys, Thabang Simon, Sammy Daniels and Madilitso Muthiya from Zimbabwe.

Although the tournament has never been won by a black player since it was established in 1995, Kamte believes the 72-hole event is bound to go to a black golfer this time round.

Previous winners are Ernie Els, Charl Schwartzel, Nick Price, Sven Struver, Tony Johnstone, Anthony Wall, Adam Scott, Justine Rose,, Mark Forster and Marcel Siem.
